“NHL Officials - The Modern Day Elliot Ness”
Written by kate on March 31st, 2009 | 1 CommentHave you ever watched an NHL game where the officials have either not enforced or miss-enforced what you know to be the rules of the game of hockey? I was watching last nights Sharks vs. Calgary game and after several blatant infractions by both teams and no calls by the officials, one of the Sharks color announcers, Drew Ramenda made a very interesting query; “Which do you prefer, a ref that calls everything or a ref that calls nothing?” . Randy Hahn’s response was very similar to my own opinion; he said “everything.” Continue reading...
Battle of Two Rookie Goalies - Renne and S.Mason
Written by tom on March 31st, 2009 | 0 CommentsNashville Predators and Columbus Blue Jackets are two of the hottest teams in the Western Conference down the stretch. With six games remaining in the regular season, only 2 points separate them in the standings. Blue Jackets remain steady in the 6 spot, with Nashville jumping between 10 and 7 spots. The two teams play each other twice more for a home and away. This series may decide the seeds for the 7 and 8 spots in the West. Continue reading...
2009 NHL Playoff Predictions
Written by Bill on March 31st, 2009 | 1 CommentYesterday Clint started the conversation off by giving us his predictions as to who he thinks will be in the playoffs in 2 weeks. Brian and I quickly threw in our two cents and here is the result. Now, before you start jumping and screaming as to “how could you pick …” - Lets see your line up! I think this could be fun … in the comment section lay out your East and West Conference playoff teams and whoever is closest, well, I’ll think of something … Maybe I’ll give you bragging rights on The Weekly Deke podcast - you can come on one Tuesday night and tell us all how silly we are for choosing who we chose! But until then … put your money where your mouth is! I look forward to seeing who wants to play … Continue reading...
NHLGameTag.com - Turn Every Game Into A Tweet-Up!
Written by Bill on March 19th, 2009 | 1 CommentIt all started about a month ago when I was at a Tampa Bay Lightning game. I was updating my Twitter account with thoughts, rants and missed scoring opportunities Tampa was blowing. As I looked around the arena I wondered who else was on Twitter, tweeting the game. Wouldn’t it be cool if there was a website people could “check in” on game days? That was all I needed to come up with the basic idea for www.NHLGameTag.com - the basis of my idea came from Damien who created http://www.boarding.fr Continue reading...

Hockey Hokey Pokey
Written by tom on March 11th, 2009 | 0 CommentsSince my team, the San Jose Sharks, is officially slumping, I’ve looked elsewhere for a hockey buzz. At the moment, other teams gaining my interest are Columbus, Pittsburgh, Carolina, and Washington. Columbus beat the top 3 teams this season - Sharks, Wings, and Bruins. Not to mention their Goalie Steve Mason is posting monster stats. I hope Mason earns the Calder. Pittsburgh tweaked their lineup before trade deadline, and changed their coach – just in time! Carolina is surging with critical wins over Capitals, Flames, and Rangers. Washington is holding strong. It’s exciting to witness Ovechkin score while sliding on the ice. Continue reading...
